Andy Warhol’s Moonwalk – The Last Warhol Series

In the early part of 1987 Andy Warhol contacted the Nasa Art’s program and procured the now universally famous photo of Buzz Aldrin’s moonwalk.  The photo was snapped by Neil Armstrong on the Apollo 11 space mission.

This is Andy Warhol’s Last series. He passed in Manhattan at 6:32am on February 22, 1987. He was in the hospital for a gall bladder surgery that had been successful. He passed in his sleep from a sudden post-operative cardiac arrhythmia.

He left the Moonwalk series unsigned. His estate verified authenticity.

While all of Warhol’s work is enigmatic not having been seen by the world at large until after his death leaves moonwalk as a final silent uncommented upon testament to an Artist and his eye for translating that which already moves us…into something that moves us in a completely different way.
